FROM THE PAINTINGS TO THE THREADS

Imperial socks by Gil Hautois

We are delighted to announce the launch of an exclusive creation that combines art and fashion: the Imperial Socks by Gil Hautois.

A unique encounter between art and fashion

At TREBIUS VALENS, we have always sought to push the boundaries of creativity and elegance. This time, we collaborated with the talented Walloon painter Gil Hautois to create a pair of socks that looks like no other. Inspired by the rich traditions and monuments of Binche, these socks embody a harmonious fusion between art and fashion.

Discovering Gil Hautois

Gil Hautois, born in 1969, is a self-taught artist known for his figurative paintings with saturated and energetic colors. His works celebrate human, cultural, folk and industrial heritage. In 2017, he was honoured with the title of Talent wallon by the Walloon parliament for his work.

Her creations are distinguished by their accessibility and thematic depth. Hautois explains: "My compositions are designed to be easily approached by everyone, from the earliest age. The thematic messages appear from the first reading but are obviously interpreted differently by everyone. For me, a successful canvas speaks for itself, it doesn’t need a text to be understood!"

The Technical Adaptation: From Canvas to Threads

Creating a pair of socks from the vibrant works of Gil Hautois was an exciting challenge, and here’s how we met it:

Choice of materials

The socks are made from 80% cotton, 15% polyamide, and 5% elastane to guarantee comfort, durability and elasticity. The choice of high quality cotton ensures optimal softness and good breathability.

Number of Colors and Knitting Machine

Gil Hautois’s works are characterized by their saturated colors. To respect this chromatic richness while adapting to the technical constraints of knitting, we had to limit the number of colors used. However, thanks to a state-of-the-art knitting machine, we were able to preserve the nuances and depth of Hautois’s creations, capturing faithfully the essence of his paintings.

Process of Converting Art into Textile

Fitting a complex piece of art on a limited textile surface like a sock requires great precision. Our designers worked closely with Gil Hautois to select the most representative elements of his works and translate them into knitted patterns. Every detail, from the iconic navy blue background to the colourful touches, has been carefully integrated to do justice to the original work.

A Limited Edition Not to Miss

The Imperial Socks by Gil Hautois are available in limited edition, making each pair a true collector’s item. We invite you to discover this unique creation and bring a touch of art and elegance to your wardrobe.
